Apart from being visionaries in their chosen fields- Steve Jobs, Barack Obama, Albert Einstein- had something else in common. They wore exactly the same outfit nearly every day!
Now, choosing what to wear is generally be a matter of personal choice, but there is some evidence to believe that it could be a possible #productivity hack.
Quoting Barack Obama from this Forbes article- https://bit.ly/32LTvex
"You also need to remove from your life the day-to-day problems that absorb most people for meaningful parts of their day. “You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” [Obama] said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” He mentioned research that shows the simple act of making decisions degrades one’s ability to make further decisions.
In a way, this example also signifies the application of a mental model called Inversion thinking. The inverse of being right more is being wrong less. By choosing to avoid possible energy leak to making seemingly trivial decisions (like deciding what to wear), one could reduce decision fatigue.
Shane Parrish explains Inversion as "Avoiding stupidity is easier than seeking brilliance." In practice, it means spending less time trying to be brilliant and more time trying to avoid obvious stupidity.
So where else could you apply Inversion Thinking to improve productivity ? I quite loved the ideas shared in the HBR article titled "5 Mental Mistakes That Kill Your Productivity" by Alice Boyes https://bit.ly/3pM8gXo It focuses on fundamental mistakes that kill your chances to be super productive. By simply avoiding simple errors, would enhance our chances of being more productive.
Would recommend reading the article. And catch the summary of the same in my #sketchnote
What else would you add to this list ?
